Websocket class - Nov 10
Here's the details on the HTML 5 Websocket class:

In case anyone is interested in handling real-time communications over the web without Comet (reverse AJAX) polling hacks, there is a $99 full-day class on the new W3C HTML 5 Communications standard (Websocket, Server-Sent Events, Cross-Domain Resource Sharing and Inter-Document messaging) on NOV 10. The class will use Javascript API's for the labs; Flash/Flex, Silverlight, and Java/JavaFX API's will also be discussed.

Class will be at the Digital Sandbox @ 55 Broad St. Nov 10.

I negotiated a 50% discount. Use code "WEBSOCKET" for the $49 price. Here's the direct discount URL:

HTML 5 Communications is part of the HTML 5 W3C standard.

Websocket
Bidirectional socket connection between server and web endpoint.
Server-Sent Events
Formalization of Comet, ie, web "push"
Cross Domain Resource Sharing
Allows web app to cross domains. Eliminates portal servers
Inter-Document Messaging
Send strings between iframes

Some use cases: XMPP/IM directly in the browser (w/o polling), real-time messaging via server-side Java JMS to Javascript, real-time event notification, access different sites in the same web app without a portal server, build collaborative tools, stream data through firewalls/proxies, create virtual private lines in the cloud, etc.

There is a new URL for the 50% discount for the Websocket class:

http://html5workshopnyc.eventbrite.com?discount=HTML5

And if you sign up a friend, the friend gets in free. Pretty cool.

That is pretty useful information there. HTML 5 seems pretty interesting, just like Anal Sex Toys.
